FRINGE DIVISION CASE FILE #407-111811
FRINGE EVENT: The Chameleon Man—chromatophores genetic disorder
CLASSIFIED CASE CONNECTION(S): Massive Dynamic/Cyprox, Inc. genetic experimentation program
AGENTS ASSIGNED: Dunham, Lee, Farnsworth
SUPERVISING AGENT: Broyles
FILE ARCHIVED BY: Thomas Newman, Davide D'Ortona
WITNESSES/CONTACTS: Officer Grant, Teresa Jaffee, Eugene Bryant (suspect; deceased)
LOCATION: Beacon Hill, MA; Park View Hospital, Vernon, NY
VICTIM(S): Jack Zoephel, Ned Ryerson
CASE REPORT SUMMARY:
Jack Zoephel was attacked at approximately 3:30 a.m. His wife placed a call to 9-1-1, and the police arrived less than two minutes later, but he was already dead from a broken neck. Dr. Bishop examined the body and found the victim had experienced a rapid spike of adrenaline associated with fear and was white as a sheet. Agents matched a blood sample at the crime scene to a baby boy born on July 26, 1989, at Parkview Hospital in New York, who only lived for four days. He was diagnosed with an unclassified genetic variant that made him extra-sensitive to light. The investigation revealed the baby did not die but was taken to Cyprox, Inc. (a satellite facility of Massive Dynamic), which was a genetic experimentation research lab. The baby was named U-Gene, or Eugene (a play on "unknown genetic disorder"), and was found to possess chromatophore cells that have the ability to translocate pigment in the body, as in a chameleon or octopus. Eugene grew up practically invisible because of his condition. He attempted to reverse the process by taking pigment back from others, which killed them. He lived in the sub-basement of an apartment building and collected tokens from the lives of the people he had killed. However, the process was killing Eugene. He was found by Agents Dunham and Lee and admitted he just wanted to exist. He expired soon after in the elevator.
