  • WALTERNATE in '6:02 AM EST': "Oppenheimer saved us too. But at what cost? He couldn't bear the nightmares... the screams of all the innocents he had killed. 'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of Worlds.' Only in our case, that really is true. We destroyed their world to save ours. May God have mercy on us."
Walter got angry in 'Peter' when Carla Warren fr-quoted that same Oppenheimer line at him.

S3E10 - The Firefly

  • SEPTEMBER to Walter in 'The Firefly': "When the time comes, give him the keys and save the girl."
The Observer was orchestrating a plan to test Walter. At the end of the episode he discussed the event with December.
SEPTEMBER: "I must admit, I feared my experiment would fail."
DECEMBER: "But you were right. He's changed. He was willing to let his son die."
SEPTEMBER: "Yes. And now we know. When the time comes... he will be willing to do it again."

In '6:02 AM EST', as Walter struggled with the idea of allowing Peter to enter The Machine, he recalled the words of the Observer.
WALTER: "Give him the keys and save the girl."
    PETER: "What?"
WALTER: "This is what he was doing. He was preparing me."
    PETER: "Who?"
WALTER: "The Observer. He was preparing me because he knew I would have to let you go. That I would... that I would have to sacrifice you to fix the problems I'd created."

S5E11 - The Boy Must Live

  • WALTER in 'The Boy Must Live': "I can't explain it, but when the boy touched me, he showed me more than just images. It was freeing, Peter. All at once, I understood that everything I've ever known - or thought I knew, as a great man - could fit into a thimble. And that's not all he gave me. I remember things, things I haven't experienced. I think, from the other timeline, before you were erased, before the timeline was reset. I remember when you came to me at Saint Claire's. My first words: 'I thought you'd be fatter'. And I remember the night I was up late, making a peanut butter sandwich, and you slipped and called me 'Dad'. The feeling of joy that gave me... and the terror, before you stepped into the Machine."
In 'The Boy Must Live' Walter told Peter about memories he regained from the original timeline, including memories of Peter stepping into The Machine from '6:02 AM EST'.
